I’ve never had the problem. I’ve been the problem tho’. My philosophy as a player is if I feel myself going that way is to pivot my “role” to “elder sibling” and basically shift to playing the groups Steve Harrington. These chaos goblins are my children and they are under my protection.
I love a game from which story emerges so I like dice. But i also hate feeling incompetent when I don’t get the need result to trigger a particular outcome. So I’m somewhere in between I think.
The sweet spot for me was established by 2e old WoD. Black and white, no gloss, but excellent interior art and covers. These days I’m almost all PDFs. And then for the love of all that’s good, hot link your table of contents and index please. Work that time into the cost. I’ll pay it.
One vet and some new crew is awesome. I live for the “ah ha” moments from new players. They feed my soul.

Yes. I like to homebrew, but I’ve also run established settings. The thing is I readily make every setting my own to an extent that given sufficient time it might become a home brew. And I’ll ignore established canon to fit my purposes with zero hesitation or regret.
Depends a little on the game, right? And the people around the table to be honest. But i don’t have a definitive answer for this one either.

Hmmm… you can’t go wrong with dice for me. Recently I’ve gotten a couple of fun blind bags of dice. A few years ago I got a d2020 that was a 20 sider with apocalypses and at the time recent news stories on it instead of numbers. Math rocks go clicky clack make gamer brain go buzz buzz.

I had to house rule 5e to within an inch of its life. At least one of the things I did as a house rule for Savage worlds has since been incorporated into the core. It was a popular house rule. My older though is probably “no one is dead dead until everyone is.” Basically, 0 hp or whatever means…
