We have more ideas about how to improve this in the future, without sacrificing resume. But you'll have to stay tuned for those 😊

Other things worth checking are using `scratch` - then only files explicitly listed as an 'output' of a process will be saved back to the work directory.

More extreme: even running Nextflow in 'local' mode in a single task and putting all work dirs in scratch, only copying back final results.

GitHub - bentsherman/nf-boost: Experimental features for Nextflow Experimental features for Nextflow. Contribute to bentsherman/nf-boost development by creating an account on GitHub.

We have nf-boost, a plugin that can delete work directories during a run once no longer needed: github.com/bentsherman/...

That works well, but it breaks `-resume` so it's a bit all-or-nothing. That's why it hasn't made it into core Nextflow yet.

You're not wrong - this is a discussion that comes up often in the #maintainers group in @nf-co.re especially. A compromise has to be made between increased modularity (easier to share + reuse code) vs. increased specificity (better optimisation for a given task).

Since recording I've been playing with it for some nf-core stuff and have found it super useful.

Using #Terraform to configure properties and setup within Seqera platform is super cool, allows proper automation and dev tooling around "the stuff that encapsulates Nextflow runs".

This is one of those episodes where I went in knowing genuinely very little about the topic, and learnt a lot!

I'd heard of #terraform a lot over the years and had a rough idea of what it was for, but didn't really know how it worked. And I had no idea how similar to @nextflow.io it is!

The Nextflow Podcast, by Seqera | The home of open science Seqera's podcasts covering the Nextflow workflow orchestrator, bioinformatics, data pipelines, and much more.

For podcast episodes, I write a summary blog post that goes on the seqera.io/podcasts episode page πŸŽ™οΈ

So if audio isn't your thing, you can get an overview by reading that. Or point your favourite LLM at the web page (which also has the full transcript) and ask about the episode interactively ✨

We've been working really hard on a refresh of the super popular #Nextflow training materials.

@geraldinevda.bsky.social has rewritten much of #Hello #Nextflow and #Nextflow #Run and I'm in the process of recording new videos πŸ“ΉπŸ“ΌπŸŽžοΈ

This was a lot of fun! πŸŽ™οΈThe way that @seqera.io #Fusion filesystem (and the new #Fusion #Snapshots) works has always seemed like magic to me πŸͺ„ so I got Lorenzo to break it down and explain.

Ok it's still magic, but now I have *some* idea what eBPF and Kernel operations and process freezing means πŸ˜‚πŸ§Š

Stay tuned for this hitting the @nextflow.io training ("Hello Nextflow" and "Nextflow Run" courses) imminently. We might spin a Claude skill up for writing quizzes too, I could share if of interest..

Yup, that's what I've been doing in training material elsewhere - the syntax is pretty simple so if you give it the link to the mkdocs-quiz docs and tell it to write quizzes for your material it does a pretty good job out of the box.

It works with local files, git repos, and even web URLs. And you don't need MkDocs if you only want the terminal experience! Pretty cool.

The CLI is handy if you're already in a terminal - run `quiz`, pick from available quizzes in your repo, and test your knowledge without switching to a browser.

It uses rich for beautiful markdown rendering with syntax highlighting 🌈, plus has a `history` command to track your scores.
