We have a time of use tariff, solar, batteries, EV.
For 2024, our entire energy costs for the house and running the car were under £700
With extra storage, I can get that down quite a bit.
I gave away my KV25-f1.
Actually advertised it for a price to ward off freeloaders, and make sure it went to someone who appreciated it.
When he arrived, he was very pleased to be buying it at the asking price and even more delighted when I told him that it was actually free.

Having said that, cars here are getting far bigger than they need to be as well.

I’m in Scotland.
Our AC went in a few years ago at modest cost.
Our solar pv and batteries did too.
If it’s hot and sunny, our AC runs for free. If it’s cold enough to need heat, the AC does that too.
The time will come when we look back in amazement that not everyone had that.
