2/There are some new zebra crossings proposed on bits of Bovemoors.
Do you have any insights that might help shape our response on behalf of people living with a #disability who use active/sustainable travel? If so, please email us inclusive.sustainable.travel@gmail.com
An image of a mini roundabout, a bus gate narrowing beyond and some signage. A few people are walking on the pavements. This is taken from an original in the consultation where the picture is labelled "indicative imagery of Option 1 - Bus gate / Authorised vehicles only"
We'll be responding to this consultation re poss changes to Dryden Rd. We want to ensure that it remains safe for people using mobility scooters or wheelchairs, to walk, wheel or cycle along/across
We're concerned re potential increases in traffic that'll come with some options.

Selfie of masc presenting person wearing trilby, a greed jumper and dark blue shirt. Behind, neo-gothic buildings in yellowish stone. Many will recognise the building as Parliament.
And this impact is far-reaching as other Disabled people, who don't have cycles, have been harmed by bans as we've not been allowed to take, or use, our mobility aids where we need them.

Taxi lane bypassing bus stop with cycle lane bypass to right. Outside St Pancras station.
Bus stop taxi lane bypass that strangely seems to have avoided being labelled a social injustice
a cycle path with red tarmac and a "mini zebra crossing" in black and white runs alongside an island of pavement next to a bus stop
Designing streets to work well for all is challenging. Eg what's perceived as unsafe for someone with little sight dismounting from a bus, may be making a disabled person's πΊπ¦Όπ¦½π² journey safer = "access conflicts".
Pleased to see gov guidance on Bus Stop Bypasses

This is so important. Why not register for one of their webinars?
Parking on the pavement in London has been illegal for 52 years and in the rest of the UK it's just a fact of life. Central government just opted against a blanket national ban. Anyway here's an excellent advert from when it was banned in London: www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8Yg...
BREAKING NEWS. Government statements on #PavementParking released:

Will DevonCC and ExeterCC act?
The then government promised a #pavementparking report Feb'21. Nil in yesterday's Road Safety Strategy. Apparently, there's a statement to be released later today. We're not holding our breath but we'll keep you updated.

βSeveral years later, my wife rides everywhere: to physio, to shopping, to restaurants, to doctor appointments, to the park β everywhere. She tucks her cane into her panniers. Thatβs important, because walking far still hurts. And cycling keeps us active and moving, which is important as one ages.β

A line of parked cars are separated from a pathway by bollards but cars fill all the available egress points. Supermarket trolleys block the pathway.
The new access from "Ikea bridge pathway" to big Tescos Exeter is great - unless your π§βπ¦½π²πΌmeans are unable to squeeze past parked cars. Trolleys also in way. We've written to Tescos inviting them to reconsider disabled access from this entrance.
We'll keep you updated.

Where do you find it hard to cross? Should DCC paint side road priority crossings on all urban junctions? We'd be very happy to see Exeter as the that to do that.
Look familiar?
Two women - one older; one elderly - cycling on a segregated cycle lane in the Netherlands.
In the Netherlands, where the Dutch invest in safe cycling, the over-65s cycle around a quarter of their journeys, while the over-80s cycle around 10% of theirs.
Low Traffic Neighbourhoods and cycle lanes don't 'restrict freedom', they expand it.

2/ Listen to this from the APPCW group and learn how Scotland got a Pavement Parking ban but we are still waiting.
Start watching at 28mins in, as they had tech trouble.

WHY ARE WE WAITING?
Pavement parking is
Inconsiderate
Dangerous
Socially unacceptable
It blocks... independence, health, social connections & trust in the whole transport ecosystem.

We've been unable to find a category on DCC's Report A Problem page to report this.
We think having an online reporting systen for #disabledaccess would be helpful & fair
Would you value a Report a Problem category for missing disabled access or barriers?

We've written to 2 councillors re missing dropped kerbs creating a #disabledaccess issue.

New guidance out from the Government today on Critical Safety Issues ie a street layout or condition that is associated with an increased risk of collisions for people walking, wheeling or cycling.
