Current obsession: Polish bass player Kinga Glyk.
A whole set made up of bass solos - sounds like a nightmare, right?
Nope, I could listen to this woman all evening - and will, do, next time she plays in London.

George Martin wearing a tuba as a hat.
George Martin would have been 100 today. Here he is characteristically being both musical and stylish.
Turn it up to 11 today. 💔
To REALLY sound like an old doofus I’m going to say a lot of new music sounds to me like music done way better 20, 30+ years ago. Pass the Wether’s original…
I think I’m officially old now, when I see all the lists of best albums of 2025 I only recognise about 10% of the artists. 🤷♂️

RIP the great Martin Parr
Great list, I love a bit of Roy Wood, the British Brian Wilson? www.theguardian.com/music/2025/d...
Steve Cropper. What an absolute legend. RIP

30 YEARS AGO TODAY: The Beatles Anthology, the documentary supposed last word on the Fab Four, begins. During the first break, Carlsberg spot their opportunity.
Life is pretty grim these days, but we have one thing going for us. At least the boys have finally left town. That was- ... Oh, here comes Phil Lynott! Hey, Phil, good to see you. Any news?

DELIVER ME FROM NOWHERE: What moved me about this film was the way it shows, without a load of sentimental corn, how writers work, drafting and redrafting their material. It's also about how beautiful things--music, books, poetry--emerge from unhappy times.
