PAPER PLANET: “While Trump gutted food stamps for the poor and disabled, Hegseth ran up the largest single-month bill in history… $93.4 Billion in September… $6.9 million on lobster tails… they told you there’s no money for health care, there’s plenty.”

Reaching net zero by 2050 ‘cheaper for UK than one fossil fuel crisis’
Climate change committee finds move to renewable energy would also bring health, economic and security benefits
Our dependency on fossil fuels makes us vulnerable. Wars across the world are pushing up prices for households in the UK.
Why keep waiting for the next crisis? We need to transition to clean power as fast as we can to protect people and our economy.

The tactic suggested where i live is to send an actual letter or postcard. Emails can be ignored - a big old bag of actual physical mail? Less so.

Things look grim in the markets right now, but at least the U.S. economy wasn’t already being propped up by a massive speculative AI bubble that is highly sensitive to rising energy costs.

Good visual reminder that war not only has large human and economic costs, it can have environmental impacts as well.

Do car-free zones hurt disabled people? We asked experts.
City planners and advocates are seeing "accessibility used as a political football."
“…disabled people are actually less likely to drive than nondisabled people and more likely to get around by walking and rolling and taking transit. Car-heavy cities are also disproportionately dangerous for disabled folks…”— @nondriver.bsky.social
Don’t use accessibility “as a political football.”

The war on Iran is unfolding alongside a wave of mass layoffs in the US. These are not separate crises. They are two sides of the same offensive by the ruling class against the working class.

Why would it be so weird to think he wants it because PM = top boss? And Luxon thinks he deserves to be the top boss.

Show me one citation where he has ever indicated interest in being knighted? Honestly, I can't stand the guy, but this knighthood nonsense comes off the same as people who said Ardern was only PM so she could go on to work for the UN.

He'll already be bucking a trend by becoming a one term PM.

No one term PM will be knighted. I don't know why people are so obsessed with this. It comes off the same as the people who were convinced Ardern only wanted to be PM so she could go on to work for the UN.

I genuinely don't know why anyone thinks this. He wanted to be prime minister, to be the top boss. Why would a corporate stuffed shirt CEO who's spent much of his working life in North America care about a knighthood?

The idea that New Zealand should be drilling for oil for "energy security" seems to forget we live in a globalised world and any oil drilled in the EEZ will be shipped to somewhere it can get the global market price, just like we pay approximately the same for NZ produced meat and milk as the UK

Countries that have adopted electric vehicles the fastest will suffer the least from oil price spikes caused by the US/Israel attack on Iran.
NZ is not one of those, thanks to Luxon’s poor leadership.
