I'm curious about the time spent ratio between literacy and mathematics and it's impacts... Seems to be 3:1 in favor of literacy. Maybe teaching literacy through science, history, and equally would afford more time for maths?
#iteachmath When will it be appropriate to call out the elephant size difference in time allocated to literacy and mathematics at the K-6 level? Yes both dropped on the PISA, but the time spent on literacy is so disproportionate that it's no wonder math starts and stays lower on these tests.

Feeling alone in a department that does not read current Ed trends, is not on social media as a PL group, and will not read a book to be part of a learning group. So strange to me that they are "good where they are" and don't know they have been left behind. ☹️
Nope! New of a new teacher 25 years ago that used "red cup" rations and portion of keg remaining problem in HS Math class...and was non-reelected for next year....hmmm
Is Calc the pinnacle of math we need HS students to climb? Wouldn't a pathway to Stats better serve all? Stats has a wider professional application. Descrete Math and Calc were likely college content for Katherine Johnson and she put a man in space with less tech than the phone I wrote this on.
