Signs of squirrelpox include lethargy, difficulty eating, looking underweight or having weeping scabs around the eyes, nose, mouth, ears, feet and genitalia.

We’ve been sent these fantastic images of a red squirrel mid-moult, which in this individual has given a beautiful stripey-tail effect! The lighter stripes are new fur coming in. These photos were taken by one our volunteers, Robyn, in Callander.

We hope you’ve all being enjoying the recent snow as much as this wee cutie! Red squirrels are well-adapted to winter life, growing thicker coats and fluffier ears, and spending more time in their dreys. The food caching they did in autumn comes in handy too!
