One in nine new homes in England built in areas of flood risk, study shows
Figures from Aviva also show number of homes being built in risky areas is on the rise
The flooding across the UK at the start of this year has been extraordinary. And new Aviva analysis shows we've built more and not fewer homes in at risk areas in recent years.
We have a housing crisis but and flooded housing crisis isn't a solution.

Next stop, better rail: growing UK train travel Β» Green Alliance
Green Alliance is an independent think tank and charity focused on ambitious leadership for the environment
The rail fare freeze is very welcome news. Year on year, fare rises have hit commuters in their pockets.
But as our report highlights, fares are only part of the picture. We need improved connectivity and integration to create a world class rail system that people can afford and want to use.

'Taxing private jets can help the rest of us soar' - LabourList
Amid economic challenges and rising emissions, fairer taxes on private jets can raise revenue and ensure the super-rich bear their share.
"Itβs about the tiny minority who can afford luxury at the expense of the planet carrying their fair share of the burden, and helping raise the revenue the country badly needs."
Great to see Sarah Champion MP pushing for higher private jet levies ahead of the budget.

Airport expansion put climate goals at risk, MPs say
A committee of MPs says the government has not demonstrated if economic benefits from airport expansion outweigh climate impacts.
"Whilst the Government support for airport expansion has been largely based on its expectation of economic growth, the Government has been unable to direct the Committee to any evidence that supports its assertion."

Charging ahead: accelerating the take up of zero emission HGVs
In this briefing, we examine whatβs holding up the adoption of electric HGVs, from grid constraints to weight restrictions, and recommend how to drive progress.
πβ‘Electric lorries and vans can now travel from Bristol to Glasgow on a single charge. The technology is proven and is getting cheaper.
So why does UK have a fleet of just 500 eHGVs? In the first half of 2025, Sweden hit 7% sales and China 22%.
Hereβs how to get more electric HGVs on the road ‡οΈ

Gatwick airport second runway approved by transport secretary
There has been strong opposition against the airport wanting to use its northern runway.
The decision to grant Gatwickβs expansion goes against the governmentβs own planning inspectors. It fails on climate, and will create extra air + noise pollution for thousands of people surrounding the airport. 1/5

Ministers yet to seek climate advice on Heathrow expansion
The government faces calls to give the Climate Change Committee a bigger role in advising on airport expansion.
Adding 100,000 flights to #Gatwick with no further plan to cut emissions is deeply worrying.
Last week it emerged that the governmentβs climate advisers had not been asked about expansion at Heathrow or Gatwick. The environment is clearly being treated as a secondary consideration.

Climate adaptation is in the news: what to do about it? Here's what we should do.
