We're launching next Thursday 27th November in the Digital Depot - come one, come all!!
A Page Six story from 2019, which has been unspooling my brain ever since: two entirely anonymous looking human beings under the headline "Tinsley Mortimer gets flirty with model Bertil Espregren".
Society abuzz as newly single felt magnate Beefcliff Speevens redoubles his attentions on bike accessory heiress, Trevorina Halfords.
Going to be reading some comics live β if that even a thing that can be done! Come join!!
CEASEFIRE I Put in mind of his own father and moved to tears Achilles took him by the hand and pushed the old king Gently away, but Priam curled up at his feet and Wept with him until their sadness filled the building. Taking Hector's corpse into his own hands Achilles Made sure it was washed and, for the old king's sake, Laid out in uniform, ready for Priam to carry Wrapped like a present home to Troy at daybreak. III When they had eaten together, it pleased them both To stare at each other's beauty as lovers might, Achilles built like a god, Priam good-looking still And full of conversation, who earlier had sighed: IV 'I get down on my knees and do what must be done And kiss Achilles' hand, the killer of my son.'
'I get down on my knees and do what must be done
And kiss Achilles' hand, the killer of my son.'
Have always been deeply deeply obsessed with this poem. π Codladh sΓ‘mh, Michael Longley.
RIP Michael Longley. I'd known him for over 40 years when he taught an Arvon with Paul Muldoon. I always said Paul supplied the genius, but Michael the magic: how else would a classicist write 'Ceasefire', an intervention into a vicious war admired by both sides? Ave atque vale.
text: turning the page to a new year image: a two-panel black and white comic drawn on grid paper a white rabbit furiously slams open a door, a stressed look on their face "MESSAGE TO ALL BITCHES" the first speech bubble reads a second, closer image of the same rabbit, eyebrows furrowed, sweat beading, mouth screaming "PLEASE SURVIVE"
it's that time
And they continuing as silly as they started β think I've about 25 or so to go before I hit the 100 and who knows if it'll make the deadline of NYE!
Picked up a digital drawing tablet in the summer and it's drastically changed the drawing process
Also enjoy drawing transformations
I love drawing tentacles
very funny to see myself learning how to use grey scale markers as the comics go on
I also downloaded tik tok this year which was, in fairness, a huge mistake
one for any/all office workers
very enjoyable to draw a dog I must say
this is obviously fiction
Set myself the challenge of making 100 comics this year and have had a lot of fun doing them β going to post a few ina a thread below if anyone fancies having a look π
Two hours left to get your applications in! Really excited to see the work that comes out of these workshops!!
I've had this column planned for a while. I hope it brings nothing but curious new subscribers to Ireland's brilliant literary journals.
In tomorrow's @irishindependent.bsky.social Review section or at www.independent.ie/entertainmen... right now...
Bringing out a sportsperson during the books segment is a DISGRACE #LateLateToyShow
Obviously a novelty, but the Toy Show really does something special in celebrating children and goes a long way to illustrate how special childhood is, or should be, which feels like an especially necessary message this year given the violence and death in Gaza #LateLateToyShow
So tense throughout, hoping these sweet natured girls wouldn't rip each other apart for a trip to Orlando
Deeply triggered by the space-kids being surprised by an Irish astronaut and given gifts from space, years of watching awkward interactions with Irish sportpeople washed away #latelatetoyshow
Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate the launch of The Stinging Fly Issue 51 Volume Two last week in Hen's Teeth.
It was a great night and we were delighted to host readings from some of the brilliant writers featured in the issue β pictures (by @ghollandphoto.bsky.social) in the 𧡠below
If the shoe fits
omg me too
Really excited about the new Stinging Fly poetry workshop β applications close next Monday!
I have migrated from the other place, but intend to bring my shady demeanour and moustache twirling with me.
