Planted 2 of them last year for 1st time … both are coming back, which makes me happy. The colors seem to change a lot through all the seasons but Winter when they go completely dormant and withered brown. A very unique little plant. 🌿 😊

I like these unexpected surprises around campus - especially those created by the students.

And…of course we can’t have Spring without many, many weeds β€” in this case a lovely yellow dandelion. πŸ’› I think they’re beautiful and don’t pull them…the heat eventually kills them. In the meantime, the critters can enjoy them.

A stone bench, decorated with colorful tiles on its seating area depicting local flowers, including Bluebonnets, under a blue sky. πŸ’™ The lettering reads β€œTCC NE Prairie Restoration”. (TCC = Tarrant County College; NE = Northeast campus). The names of the artists are on the bottom right written in black letters. Well done, artists!

Book Cover: Olga, written by Bernard Schlink.

In essence, a one-sided love story…I just couldn’t warm up to. The times, the tone, the aloofness perhaps, kept me from fully enjoying this novel nor completely caring about Olga and the admirable life she was able to gather together in times when strong women weren’t accepted. Can’t really put my fingers on it. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Back Cover: Olga, written by Bernhard Schlink.

β€œOrphaned at a young age, Olga lives in a quaint Prussian village at the turn of the century. Smart and precocious but unloved, she grows up lonely-until she meets Herbert. She finds in him a kindred spirit, spurred by adventure and dreams. Yet their epic romance-staged across decades and continents, from Africa to the Arcticβ€”is ultimately a testament of a woman forced to live below her capacities, beside men who lived above theirs. Seamlessly alternating viewpoints and form, Olga is a wrenching portrayal of a singular woman and her love. And she loves against all odds: passionately, desperately, wisely.”

A love story…of sorts. Definitely a story about the life of a strong woman, Olga, in late 19th to early 21st century Germany. German history, particularly colonialism, sprinkled in throughout.

Three types of redbuds can be grown in this part of Texas. There are differences in size, water
requirements, and heat tolerance β€” this one looks to be an Eastern Redbud versus a Texas or Mexican Redbud.

Close Up: Miniature clusters of Redbud flowers. These blossoms will last for about 2-3 weeks. Then they will turn into heart-shaped green to bronze leaves.

Redbuds are good pollinator plants to bees and the leaves also serve as host plants for butterflies.

The African Hosta is loving life again after overwintering in the garage. I love the spots of the leaves in the Spring (they disappear in the Summer). The flower spikes are an extra bonus. Planning to repot today as this pot has no drainage hole and I have to remember to protect it every time it rains, which is a real pain around here in the Spring.

Also, I’ve made a decaf hot cup of tea with nondairy creamer an evening ritual lately…it helps warm me up and calm me down before bedtime.

Sit outside if you can … that always reenergizes me and fills me with good thoughts. I rarely watch news anymore; in fact, I actively avoid it - too much of a beat down & life’s too short at my age.

I just ordered this one … about the mistress who killed herself and murdered her 4 year old daughter by Plath’s cheating husband. It was quite a tangled web.

I do think simple things of all kinds may be coming back β€” there’s a yearning for the way things were, as many now are so terribly changed.
