Sicário de Schrodinger? 🤔
Imagina um jornalista que se formou em filosofia e claramente não aprendeu nem o be-a-bá da disciplina
Goblin: Macbeth @ Centaur Theatre was surprisingly excellent. Montreal folks, go see it!
"the usual replies from people from Latin America" being labeled "angry and incoherent" by a US academic.
What do we call this again?
Not all exonyms are slurs. The difference between endonyms and exonyms is not something only USians are "subjected to". Ask "Hispanics", Germans, etc. Y'all can take a long hard seat.
Só vai melhorar a situação quando o Sergio da Silva for eleito ☹️
Title Devil's Bible. Other Title Codex Gigas Summary The Codex Gigas (or Devil's Bible) is a large 13th-century manuscript from Bohemia, one of the historical Czech lands. Renowned for its size and its striking full-page rendition of the devil (found on page 577), it contains a number of parts: the Old and New Testaments, two works of Josephus Flavius, Isidore of Seville's Etymologies, the standard textbook for teaching medicine in the Middle Ages known as Ars medicinae (The art of medicine), the 12th-century Chronica Boëmorum (Chronicle of the Bohemians) of Cosmas of Prague, and a calendar. Of special interest are the sections that testify to the Bohemian origin of the manuscript and its eventful history. At the end of the 16th century, the Codex was incorporated into the collections of Habsburg ruler Rudolph II. During the Swedish siege of Prague at the end of the Thirty Years' War (1648), the manuscript was taken as war booty and transferred to Stockholm. A student asked about the biggest codex and you know what? I did know! It’s the Codex Gigas. But my favorite fact about this behemoth is that it took a lot of asses—160 donkeys to be exact—to produce this one book.
Now that is a true book assessment 🫏 www.loc.gov/item/2021667...
Apparently, the reaction when it opened in Portugal was also quite violent. Here in Montreal, where folks are usually very tame, a bunch of people left during the final monologue after shouting down/booing the actor. It's a *very* provocative monologue, for sure. But that's the point, etc.

Queria estar vendo minha Imperatriz homenagear Ney 🫤
I won't go into the redacted part (IYKYK), but it most definitely has nothing to do with gender, nor with me being a feminist or whatever other nonsense, so you can all take a seat please
A few things funding from the Mellon foundation did to me:
- allowed me to study palaeography
- allowed me to consult manuscripts in the Vatican Library that were crucial to my research
- ultimately contributed to my completing my dissertation & to a much larger project that ensued

Anyone else been getting scammy peer-review requests?
I've just gotten asked to review a paper on a subject that is just outside of my area of expertise from a suspicious-looking email address. I obv won't do it, as I don't believe in free labour anyway.
But what's the endgame here exactly?
No one cares about the aftershow

Imagine this same ~hot take with Homer's wine-red sea, etc.

Nice hot take. I'm sure Madeline Miller hasn't done enough research 🙄
She *had* to have known that all stainless steel tools and containers used *in Homeric times* would have produced Shrek-green olive oil
