worried we’re spending too much time emphasizing that someone is a Student or Writer or Not A Criminal or Not Involved In Protests or just a Good Person and not enough time remembering that *no one* should be disappeared, detained, deported to horrific camps

This is incredible work, but also so, so cursed. I wish to possess it but I don’t know what else it will bring into my home…

artists do better with stability, security, serenity, some enrichment in our enclosure and not being hunted for sport

Trying to remember that it’s normal to be terrible at something you’ve never done before and not an immediate moral judgement on my character. Embroidery is so relaxing!

"Already old objects seem like real ones by contrast with objects from the industrial age, but this is merely a prefiguring of the days when the tiniest tangible object will be as precious as an Egyptian relic."

You’re totally right on all counts. 100% unfair. It also makes me crave a bigger fever-dream-nightmare vehicle from him, like, yesterday.

Late Night with the Devil has haunted me ever since I saw it in theaters weeks ago. I’ve heard valid criticism of it not committing to its found footage conceit, how successful the third act was or was not, but literally none of it matters bc of Dastmalchian’s hypnotic performance. Incredible.

As a person who suffered from debilitating depression for years before medication cleared it up, the lesson I want to impart upon everyone is this: The world, and your life in it, is not defined by the worst things that happen in it, and bad things are not more real than good things. That's it

The desert in concentric collapse. Seeing other versions of reality flicker in the light; a fleeting quantum mirage; a double-exposure photograph of a memory happening before your eyes, just as the sun is setting and the car is moving fast enough that you look back and it's gone, and you wonder if it was a trick of light or if you maybe glimpsed through to something else, somewhere else, briefly, before it collapsed.

"The Great Collapse" (photography/synthography, 2007-2023). A transformation of old memories, experimental synthographic destruction and recomposition of old film photographs from the desert and old abstract photographs.

the more I think about it, the weirder it is that culturally we have totally ceded this set of interesting books - at least as much part of our cultural heritage as the Iliad and the Odyssey and at least as rich and fascinating - to religion not literature and history.
