New Episode of the EULAS Weaving Paths Podcast: Can EU trade policy reduce deforestation beyond Europe’s borders? In our latest episode, we welcome Dr. Alan Leal (Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro) to discuss how two major EU instruments - the EU Deforestation-Free Products Regulation (EUDR) and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) - are reshaping EU–Latin America trade relations and influencing environmental governance on the ground in Brazil. At the heart of the conversation is Alan’s newly released research (February, 2026): “EUDR and Deforestation in Brazil: Are Producers Anticipating the European Deforestation-Free Regulation?” Co-authored with Ana Flávia Trevizan, Michelle Márcia Viana Martins and Network partner Carmen Fonseca of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, the study offers one of the most detailed empirical assessments to date of the EUDR’s early effects.
