The fundamental cognitive bias being exploited here is that ‘truth matters’. Or that survival as a species is a common goal. They don’t give a damn about truth or morality. They are stumping for their wealthy sponsors with no regard for truth or consequences. It’s institutional psychopathy.

This is exactly right. Also, during the Biden administration, the owners of the tech sector experienced the beginning of meaningful anti-monopoly regulations from the federal government.
They went fascist to crack down on worker power and destroy regulations. Classic move!
