A lot of good conversations at #GDC2026 about what game developers are struggling with in making safe play experiences and protecting their users โค๏ธ
At #GDC next week with safety on your mind? Come find me for a chat about the open source tools we've built at @roost.tools for harms like abusive behavior, anti-cheat and fraud, and child safety.
I don't have a lot of swag, but free software for better gaming is a pretty good giveaway.
I wrote up a piece on how standards are made, because of some folks being very negative about the grant on other social networks: writings.thisismissem.social/how-standard...

Talk openly with the kids in your life about how offenders may use grooming or fake images to befriend, scare, or blackmail them. Teach them to report threats immediately and remind them it's never their fault. More here: https://www.ncmec.org/blog/2020/grooming-in-the-digital-age

@rahaeli.bsky.social just acking your message - don't have my id on me right now so can't see the message screen but YES it's on our list! (sorry for public reply lol)
we are hiring! we are a fully remote org building open source tools for safety. we're a nonprofit so no stock, but we aim for competitive salary.
see our work at GitHub.com/roostorg
our open roles: roost.tools/careers
If you were laid off from Block (or anywhere) and want to stay remote, @roost.tools is hiring for multiple SWE roles and levels.
If you're the kind of person who's deeply satisfied by figuring out why a service has multiple databases and ripping some out, we might be for you! roost.tools/careers
Just got off the phone with President Trump. In our meeting earlier, I shared my concerns about Columbia student Elmina Aghayeva, who was detained by ICE this morning. He has just informed me that she will be released imminently
ios engineers too!!!
exactly this
Like, AI might be able to produce code faster or even rectify tech debt on non-human timescales, but it can't retain the level of institutional knowledge that humans do. It can't help facilitate teams working together. It can't solve novel problems well.

People followed the law, now they're changing the law in an arbitrary way to harm people for no reason other than they're hate filled assholes and they did it without any period to comply
It's wrong for every reason
some really really great people lost their jobs at cash app and across Block today

and I credit @amybunny.tgirl.gay for posting!
this piece from @techpolicypress.bsky.social goes into the details of how measurement can address the inequality of content moderation with a great degree of measuredness
www.techpolicy.press/how-measurem...
Content moderation tooling presents an entirely different collection of user interface and user experience challenges unlike any other software.
Design isn't for flair or optimising engagement but is instead about protecting.
I wrote about some considerations:

10000000000% agree. they're tools to help people and mods, not to replace. Osprey for example def needs a person to figure out what rules should be written.
Coop, the other @roost.tools tool, is designed for people as a review tool
I also really believe in moderator-focused tooling where they get to influence the tools features. I cohosted a series of workshops on designing better mod tools in the last year and will be making those results public too.
@iftas.org also does a great survey of moderator needs for tooling!
a ton of thought goes into these types of tools! i did a lot of this research when I worked at tech companies and put some of it in this paper when we were incubating ROOST: papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....
Relying heavily on previous work by @riana.bsky.social I wrote a long piece about just how incredibly dangerously stupid West Virginia's "first in the nation" lawsuit against Apple is. By misunderstanding how the 4th Amendment works, if WV succeeds it will make it much harder to prosecute predators.
