This is a poem about a victim of war so it feels particularly relevant right now what with all the needless ongoing conflict in the world.
It was published in an issue of one of the very best journals out there, The Madrid Review.
Thanks for reading.

Wildflowers, a couple of springs ago, in the churchyard in Buckfastleigh, Devon. This is actually a very spooky spot in winter as it's the resting place of the allegedly Satanic Squire Richard Cabell - inspiration for Arthur Conan Doyle's Baskerville legend - whose corpse is boxed in by a somewhat incongruous structure, a little pagoda-ish, but also not unlike the kind of public toilet you might find in a small British town, which sits on the south side of the church. Do NOT walk around it backwards as the Devil will bite your fingers and Cabell will release his hell hounds. Also, the church has been burned down by Satanists not once but TWICE in the last couple of centuries. (I wrote about all this in more detail in my book 21st-Century Yokel, and a couple of the scarier gravestones inspired bits in my novel Villager.
Wildflowers love dead people.
Still one of the coolest covers ever.

I was particularly impressed with Sotto Voceβs A SCARRED DRIFTER; and that Spring Kissmet anthology included many delightful stories.

AOC: We already have multiple American service members who are dead for an illegal action that the president has pursued with no plan out. They donβt know why they got into this war. Theyβre talking about a hundred different reasons, and they donβt know how theyβre getting out.
A development such as this has been a goal for HIV researchers for decades. It is important because people who are faced with difficult treatment regimens are less likely to be compliant.

Been wrestling with this one for a while now, and finally completed it this weekend. I am not a religious person, more of an apatheist, but every painter takes a stab at a madonna once right? Even accidentally? Its a tradition.
