I've spent 10 minutes looking for a basic/cheap, digital, non-smart watch, because I need a watch. I already hate the watch community, because everything I can find is like "Best cheap watches under $300/$1000"
Motherfucker, that's the opposite of cheap just to get wrist-mounted time keeping.

Correction. Orwell never said this. He did however, warn that: "political language... is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.β (That's Politics and the English Language, one of my favorite essays)

The most charitable reading is that they're cutting native backwards compatibility, and planning to announce Windows 12 in a few years, as an OS that runs on both PCs and the next Xbox... meaning there'd be little distinction because it's just an Xbox branded PC with an Xbox overlay.

We call it the Department of War
And the head of that department is?
The Secretary of War
And the workers in this organization?
Warfighters
And these people are fighting a war.

Like Singal before him, Ben Ryan's statements ride that line between "is an idiot" and "is engaging in idiot keyfabe to disingenuously make a point he knows is bullshit" and it's left as an exercise to the reader to figure out which he's engaging in at any minute (including, often, both at once).

more than anything, i am just exhausted with the constant attempts to rewrite reality
gambling odds are "projections"
speculative crypto tokens are "currencies"
LLM text generators are "AI"
video games are "the metaverse"
just a neverending assault on our ability to accurately describe reality

-- these games are now going to be dead with little-to-no chance for reappraisal later.
And you know that if they were reappraised later, they'd get much more favorable attention. This is exactly why I rail so hard against "That's not a good [insert franchise name here]" arguments. They're the same

Highguard, like Concord, is a weird one. Rejections of a business practice that crush a game in the process. Not entirely unjustified, but not really appropriate either.
Unlike older games that would be demolished for being 'another GTA clone', or 'another game with tacked on multiplayer', --

Glad Anthropic stood up against the regime for now!
But seeing so many politicians and media folk getting ahead of themselves claiming Anthropic as overall good and responsible is concerning π
They knowingly stole the works of almost every creative, to power their models per court documents.

Despite nothing significant happening, I now only have 8.45m credits worth of cars to buy, playing just over an hour each week, no microtransactions, no grinding, no shenanigans at all.
Unfair economy my ass.

That and Nintendoland were two of the only games that have me looking back and thinking "Yeah, you can't really replicate what this offered on any other console."
Most everything else good was good in spite of or independent from the Wii U's quirks/gimmicks.

It was a classic case of Nintendo doing something weird for the sake of it (the gamepad), that gimmick getting a lot of initial support... and then nothing really using it from that point forward, except shovelware.
Fine as a console, really weak as anything beyond a slightly overclocked PS3/360.

This though is also why I wasn't bothered by ones like Garbodor, Klefki, Vanillite, etc., while everyone else was up in arms about them.
When so many Pokemon were also designed like a Palkia or Solgaleo (or ugh... Blaziken... too many clothed humanoids), a boring object given life was preferable.

I'm okay with odd weird ones that don't seemingly have ANY origin in reality. But I've disliked how often those ones just end up looking like space god blobs, or shapes with dangerous looking features and stripes/spikes/clothing attached, as if they're designing an American 1950's car.
