In summer, I was
Eye-level with a skylark
On top of the dunes.
Now the grey sea’s wind-whipped
To flying foam;
White gobbets spat on the rocks
Drift free, transform
To silver flitting birds -
Black legs dangling,
White winged, sad-eyed
Sanderlings.
