Kathy Trevelyan found Greenham through varied women’s groups, and her first time there was for the Embrace the Base action in 1981.

The right to protest by holding meetings and demonstrations with each other is enshrined in Article 11 of the European Convention on Human Rights. History always has lessons for the searcher
Despite continual challenges from a Government that many people, still today, feel was repressive, and from the police and other elements of state apparatus, Greenham Womens’ rights to protest were upheld, time after time.
The Greenham Women’s actions at the Peace Camp, which lasted from 1981 to 2000 did lead to some Greenham Women being imprisoned, but it was often for short periods of time, often for civil offences such as non payment of fines, and they were, at no time, labelled as a terrorist group.
today under a Labour government we’d likely be put in prison as a threat to national security or deemed linked to terrorist groups.
So maybe it’s important to remind people just how much our rights to protest have been and are continuing to be eroded.”
It’s shocking that our actions and protests were carried out under a Thatcher government with Heseltine. If we were to take part in so many of these actions today… dancing on the silos; the teddy bears picnic and the mass action of women cutting the fence with bolt cutters…
At a time when our right to protest seems to be in crisis, a Greenham Woman sent us the below wise words.

We stand with all those who work for peace, and who are working to pick up the pieces in this brutal, illegal, war.
in conflict by the UN. We cannot see any justification for that attack and, in a region where girls’ education is insecure at best, it is unfathomable to us.
The road to peace cannot be war. Regime change can be seen as patriarchal violence 'for your own good'
We cannot find evidence of anyone taking responsibility for this but it's our understanding that it was a US/Israeli attack. While it has been reported that there were previously physical links between the school and the Republican Guard, schools and hospitals are specifically excluded as targets
horrified at the attacks launched by the US and Israel on Iran, and the cavalier attitude behind them. These attacks have no congressional authority, and breach international rules of law and state sovereignty.
We are particularly appalled at the attack on a girls school.
and in particular, male violence. Tens of thousands of women were involved in the camp over those decades.
As a heritage project working with and led by Greenham Women to collect and preserve their history, we are fortunate to connect with Greenham Women regularly. We know that they, like us, are
45 years ago, 36 people - mostly women, some with pushchairs - marched from Cardiff to Greenham Common to protest at US nuclear missiles being stored on UK common land. The march was the first stage of what became a 20 year camp for peace, against all forms of violence,
