Here's where we are at: federal agents shot and killed a 37-year-old white man, a US citizen and ICU nurse at the VA who appears in multiple videos to have done absolutely nothing violent or even remotely illegal.

Congrats @jeffgroh.bsky.social et al. Some avocado trees open female-phase flowers in the morning & then male in afternoon. Others show complementary pattern (m->f), to synchronize pollination of two types. Jeff show this to be a >45Mya polymorphism at a transcription factor across 100s of species.
Fantastic write-up. So incredibly strange
i'm sorry but we really should just grind the entire country to a halt until we break this fucking monstrous apparatus. this shit is insane. it's insane to go to work while this is happening

Please spread widely and quickly - the more signatures we get the better chances we have of cajoling NSF into changing course on this small but very impactful item
Please repost and amplify !

These embryo-selection startups are clearly feeding into an alt-right ecosystem that revels in techno-futurism much as such movements have in the past. GWAS participants & parents navigating IVF deserve better than being used as tools to attract the attention of edge lords.
A few thoughts on Herasight, the new embryo selection company. First, their whitepaper (drive.google.com/file/d/1EpFi...) implies that competitors like Nucleus have been marketing and selling grossly erroneous risk estimates. This is shocking if true! π§΅
Reflecting what we've known in plant genetics for a while, you just really can't beat ridge regression/GBLUP
"Women are PIs on 58% of the canceled grants, although they are PIs on only 34% of all active NSF grants.
Similarly, Blacks are PIs on 17% of the terminated grants, although they make only 4% of the total pool. Hispanic PIs and those with disabilities were twice as likely to lose a grant."
Amazing study from Jill Anderson, Megan Demarche and colleagues, integrating species distribution models, reciprocal transplants, snow manipulation and more to test whether a montane plant can adapt to climate change. The sad answer: not without human intervention.

One day left to apply! Not seeing many American applications so far, which puzzles me a little bit. If you have a four-year degree including advanced courses in Ecology or Evolution, you are likely eligible. Happy to answer detailed questions over DM or email.

So weird & inscrutable that Musk & his core ideology keeps having strong connections to eugenics & race science, including the pseudonymous race science account Cremieux revealed to be ran by Jordan Lasker whose race science paper was at the center of a scandal involving NIH data misuse & deception
