also crucial note: I am not being all "why don't young people appreciate the music _I_ like as a middle aged person?" it's more just being interested in oddities in how retro cool seems to be assigned these days (why is italo having a continuing moment? I love it, but it's baffling)

The whole thing where old music is cool and interesting to young people up until a very set historic point (which varies slightly by genre) is both interesting and entertaining, especially in the way that things which happened _after_ that set point are treated as not existing
