I also picked up on Dr Chloe Hurstโs point that, of dying patients who are prescribed the life-ending medication, 30% donโt go on to use it.
Demonstrates palliative effect of having choice & that patients donโt take medication as soon as itโs prescribed but only when they need to or not at all.
VAD offers dignity, agency and choice about one's own death - opt-in and criteria based, if you aren't a fan then don't request it.
Tasmanian legislation clearly differentiates thusly: #VAD is a choice between death and death, whereas suicide is a choice between life and death.

The issue is more complex than that. In c. 4% of cases morphine will not alleviate physical suffering. It is also a question of autonomy. Palliative sedation is not for everyone.
It's not as simple as that.
It is too restricted. Unbearable suffering should be guiding legislation.
