Not even the Nazis expressly announced they were committing war crimes. Indeed, at Nuremberg war crimes were denied.
But here, openly, the US Secretary for Defense is explicitly admitting to committing war crimes.

ONE shot. They had one shot all game yet equalised and came away with a point. #SqueakyBumTime

Yes. Even the Europa squad selection. Leaving out Hutchinson first phase then leaving out Netz so we can’t rest our fullbacks in favour of the ALREADY KNOWN TO BE INJURED Savona.
A great way to conserve fuel at a society wide level would be making buses free
Busing in Christchurch is $6 a day and even at $3 a litre, petrol will allow you to travel 20km or more depending on fuel efficiency, so if you own a car it's still the economical option for most people
Just so we're all clear, this is a war crime and would be punishable by life or death under U.S. law.
It’s almost like Putin and Netanyahu control our foreign policy.
The government has sold around 150 state houses in Christchurch, most of which have been bought by investors. It has caused the first decline in the city’s public housing supply since at least 2017 dlvr.it/TRT7lc
The obvious way for the Govt to save fuel now as the US war on Iran threatens supply is to make public transport free.
Will they?

NZ Railways poster c.1980, promoting that Rail Freight is 4x more fuel efficient that road freight, and the NZ Railways is the 'Great New Zealand Energy Saver' Pictures is a DC locomotive hauling a freight train past some farms
During the last Oil Shock in 1979 NZ Railways was touted as the 'Great NZ Energy Saver' being far more fuel efficient in carrying freight compared to road freight.
While still true, we've lost the sidings & the small to medium goods freight service we had in 1979. Time to look to the past for ideas?
Love it!
(1) The accused declared, ordered, or otherwise indicated that there shall be no survivors or surrender accepted; (2) The accused thereby intended to threaten an adversary or to conduct hostilities such that there would be no survivors or surrender accepted; (3) It was foreseeable that circumstances would be such that a practicable and reasonable ability to accept surrender would exist; (4) The accused was in a position of effective command or control over the subordinate forces to which the declaration or order was directed; and (5) The conduct took place in the context of and was associated with hostilities.
✋ Former USG war crimes lawyer here.
Apropos of SecDef's remarks this morning:
Denial of quarter—even the declaration of no quarter—is a war crime.
And recognized as such by the US Government.
From DoD's Manual for Military Commissions.
Communicate this well to help people understand the extra costs oversized vehicles put on the rest of us through disproportionate road wear, greater pedestrian injury risk etc.
#nzpol it's time may come again
What I've not seen which would be hugely helpful is the COST per student set alongside the fees, in similar terms. A structurally higher cost per student is a very different issue to solve than a lower subsidy #ukpol
The additional cost of ONE fossil fuel price spike on the scale of 2022 = the ENTIRE COST of Net Zero by 2050. We get precisely nothing in return for the first cost, and a whole new, more secure and cheaper energy system from the second one.

2/ "The Pentagon and [NSC] significantly underestimated Iran’s willingness to close the Strait of Hormuz in response to US military strikes ... agency analysis and forecasts that would be integral elements of the decision-making process in past administrations were secondary considerations."
I had assumed it was an opposition MP trolling with a'please please keep luxon' meme moment
When you're paying $3 a litre for petrol... Remember Luxon's govt crashed the EV market, slashed public transport & cycleway spending & cut fees for importing gas guzzlers by 80% - turning NZ into a dumping ground for the worlds dirtiest most oil hungry vehicles.
Credit @newsroom.co.nz for the graph
New shorter ferries: $596 million.
Paid to Hyundai for zero big ferries: $222 million.
Total cost of ferries: $818 million.
So we're paying $409 million per smaller rail enabled ferry.
We would have paid $225 million per larger rail enabled ferry.
Saving money? Pull the other one.
Pretty damning that the Refining Manager of the now closed Marsden Point Oil Refinery is going on radio going "WE NEED TO TRANSITION OFF FOSSIL FUELS" and calling our strategy MAGA and 1980s.

No way to predict this, says Government of nation whose media outlined exactly this scenario 16 months ago.
@top.org.nz one for nz?
This seems like a good idea #nzpol
So to summarise: You failed to take out the regime. You failed to destroy nuclear material. You failed to eradicate Iran's retaliatory capacity. You brought chaos to the Middle East. You killed god knows how many people. You destabilised your own economy. All for nothing, but the ego of madman.
Now imagine if we had electrified the inter-city rail we used to have all over this nation.

Phew, lucky we've got Luxon's pledged 'supercharged' network of EV infrastructure across the country..
What the f..! #nzpol
And can copy to
newsroom@stuff.co.nz
Everyone can submit a formal written complaint by email to the Editor-in-Chief at keith.lynch@stuffdigital.co.nz
within 1 month of the articles publication. Then escalate to NZ media council if not addressed
I cannot tell you how much my respect would go up for Luxon and National if they recognised the new situation and went all out for domestic solar and renewables now.
There is political cover from the middle east energy shock
It's only really ego and insecurity that stands in the way. #nzpol
