We’ve got 3 massive bur oaks in the yard, we managed to get in a couple of hardy apples, so not much room for additional trees, sadly. The shade can be a limiting factor, too. Always experimenting with something, though!
We’re zone 3, some areas of our garden that I can baby a zone 4 plant to do all right. Gotta love some urban micro climate. But there are a lot of plants that just don’t thrive here. I do have a lavender that has come back 3 years running. I won’t know until late April whether we’ll get a fourth.
