In sum: don't stress too much about the terrain you run on (flat/up/down), but maybe think a little about how fast you're running. However, spend most of your time thinking about how you can build bigger bones, and (maybe) change your gait so that it reduces the load on the skeleton.

Too long for alt text here's a summary: faculty members at UT Austin are condemning the university administration's decision to invite heavily armed city police and state troopers to the campus in response to a planned peaceful educational event by the Palestine Solidarity Committee. The event was meant to include teach-ins, study sessions, pizza, and an art workshop, with no threat of violence or disruption. The faculty members witnessed police using excessive force against students, including punching a female student, knocking over a legal observer, and violently arresting students for standing at the front of the crowd. They are calling for no business as usual on campus and are urging the community to gather at the main mall in front of UT Tower the following day.

In most psychological ivory towers there will be found an animal labora- tory. The scientists who live there think of themselves as theoretical psy- chologists, since they obviously have no other rationalization to explain their ex- travagantly paid and idyllic sinecures. The theoreticians can subject their sub- human animals, be they rats, dogs, or monkeys, to more rigorous controls than can ordinarily be exerted over human beings. The obligation of the theoreti- cal psychologist is to discover general laws of behavior applicable to mice, monkeys, and men. In this obligation the .theoretical psychologist has often failed. His deductions frequently have had no generality beyond the species which he has studied, and his laws have been so limited that attempts to apply them to man have resulted in confusion rather than clarification.

The only guarantee that I've learned in the 7.5 years living here is I'm not missing the August long weekend. Typically best weather of the year. Otherwise, you hit the nail on the head. Summer is too short (almost feels non-existent) and winter seems to drag on forever.
I feel like there's this May sweet-spot for North American academics that we would be well suited for conferences. That way I could enjoy the two nice weeks of Calgary summer here :)
I wonder if given a choice, what season/time of year people prefer. When I talk to others in NA, many lament that the conferences are during prime vacation season.

I guess the null hypothesis is that nothing differs between what you're studying. Usually, we don't look at single movements in isolation; we have some other condition or task constraint - e.g., timed walk/run - that we compare against. I'm open to not needing hypotheses, but it seems rare.
I think that we all have a hunch about how our analyses will work out. It may be useful to ask that we all think a little deeper about our priors.
