I think it was the recent hearing on ICE. Was the CPD one youre referring to the one from 2020 (or was it 2021?) when Brown proposed demilitarizing CPD
and almost all the other councilmembers voted against it? Iirc Favor was the only other person who voter for it.
We did beat the record, FYI
If we beat the record 4 hour City Council hearing, the committee should have to buy us all pizza and beer
Grateful to Katy Shanahan for saying what a whole lot of folks are thinking
Had to cut some things out to try to stay within the 3 minute limit, but my full testimony and a lot of other peopleβs is posted here: www.columbus.gov/files/shared...
Glad OECβs Annalisa Rocca is here bringing up health impacts and the need for policy to require behind-the-meter generation to be clean energy.
I hope there will be another hearing, because people need the opportunity to respond to the Data Center Coalition propaganda
Weβre now 3 hours in and still waiting for community members to have the opportunity to speak. A lot of people who i assume had planned to speak have left.
The Data Center Coalition Rep just called data centers βthe cornerstone of our modern economy.β If I were them I donβt know if Iβd say that out loud.
All of us who are already mad about data centers are gonna be so hangry by the time we get up there!
Weβre 2 1/2 hours into the Cbus City Council data center hearing and still not through the presentations from invited speakers. I wonder how many of us who signed up will actually get to speak.
In less than 2 months, the federal government has spent at least $215 million on a single warehouse in rural Maryland and that number could grow to $642 million. Here's where your tax dollars are going. π§΅

Thank you @annastaver.bsky.social and @cleveland.com for lifting up the voices of Appalachian Ohioans whose drinking water is threatened by poorly regulated toxic, radioactive waste. This issue has been front page news in Marietta for a long time, but the rest of the state doesnβt hear much about it.
Data centers have a massive impact on our environment, our health, and our energy bills and Central Ohio is disproportionately impacted as a data center hot spot. I hope lots of local folks are planning to speak or submit written testimony for this important hearing!
Last night's presser in Marietta! We want acknowledgement of the signed resolutions of putting a moratorium on the toxic Class I & II injection wells in SE Ohio! See what Susan Vessels, Marietta City Council President had to say:

Whatβs up with Columbus air quality today, and why no news alerts about it? When I opened my door the percentage on my home air purifier in my kitchen quickly dropped about 20 points! That is not normal.
I wrote about the water crisis in West Virginia and the βtheyβre getting what they voted forβ reactions. open.substack.com/pub/appodlac...

Purple background with bold white text reads, "big transit fan," "belief in better mobility," and "wanting to shout it from the rooftops," each followed by a blue check mark. Below in yellow text: "if this sounds like you, read on >" Footer reads "Transit Columbus." Tone is enthusiastic and inclusive.

Thank you for bringing attention to this important issue! Marietta-area media covers Wa Coβs fight to protect local aquifers from poorly regulated injection wells on a weekly basis & a few other outlets have taken notice, but no coverage in @dispatch.com. This deserves statewide attention!
We stand with you!
Sen βBrineβ Chavez says thereβs nothing to worry about, so it must be true, right?
SB 329 will have proponent testimony in front of the Senate Ag & Natural Resources Committee this afternoon at 3pm.

Underground storage of carbon dioxide is also dangerous and will impact many of the same communities that are already accepting other types of waste.
