I recently had a meeting with a major contract manufacturer of functional mushroom supplements and their response to my simple questions was "I don't want you to think we're a bunch of hillbillies putting any old stuff into capsules" π

It's not about "having authority" - it's a fact that the overwhelming victims of war are not veterans. Maybe they should be allowed to heal first?
I'm excited to be co-hosting my first fungi-focused event of the year in Brighton next month! πβπ«πβπ«π
I guess I missed the memo, but apparently we're all supposed to care what billionaires who've probably only tripped once think about psychedelics...?
I would hope the mushrooms support my post π
Ooh excellent! Looking forward to chatting to you about this at BC and hanging out of course πβ€οΈ
3) There are other compounds, like baeocystin for example, which changes the quality of the mushroom experience - a British liberty cap (my favourite!) is qualitatively different from cubensis strains
2) The word 'mushroom' feels like it's being forced out, because mushrooms are dirty, and grow in the darkness and thrive in shit...this doesn't fit into the clean/clinical nature of a therapeutic setting.
1) Maybe I'm one of the few people who aren't happy with seeing 'psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy' being talked about so much?
Awesome! I was just talking to someone about chicken of the woods!
Getting blocked on here because apparently being vocally anti-war and asking the psychedelic community to think outside their bubble offends some people
It's a shame that MAPS couldn't engage with any of the claims and instead made it into a weird partisan attack on @psymposia.bsky.social and @neselsd.bsky.social
Cosying up to the right wing and hiring journalists to write hit pieces is so cool π
The only thing for evil to succeed is for good people to do nothing...I would like to do more but have physical limitations. I have been writing articles, giving talks, hosting and appearing on podcasts talking about this very topic. What about you?
I mean, treating the wounds of soldiers literally and physically allows the war machine to continue...if everyone just succumbed to their injuries then there wouldn't be anyone left to fight the wars right?
Please tell me more about how you don't care about bombing innocent people...
I feel like this is something of a straw man argument...MDMA therapy without a call to end conflict perpetuates the war machine by finding a solution to the trauma. It's not a disorder when you have a human response to being in these awful situations
I think the overwhelming victims of war are not the veterans, and other people should have priority for treatment
Wouldn't a better focus be an end to ALL war, given their focus is largely on treating war-induced trauma? Just a wild thought, I know...
Peter Thiel and Christian Angermayer are the first ones which spring to mind
It's disappointing β but not surprising β that journalists with close ties to MAPS have resorted to such a transparently partisan political attack. This piece is an opportunistic attempt to politicize whistleblowers with a narrative that appeals to the Trump administration. While Jacobs and Nuwer attack Psymposia and me personally, they have failed to refute our core claims, which remain important and unrebutted. To be clear, their attacks are flatly incorrect and underscore their desperation to distract from the real story: that MAPSβs handling of its clinical trials was a disaster, and that Lykos is in financial disarray. To obscure this fact, the article offered a caricature of my research and of Psymposia's broader work in the field. I describe my actual motivations in a recent AJOB commentary: Lykos has never acknowledged how the on-camera physical and sexual abuse from its Phase 2 clinical trial was enabled by the therapy's reliance on Grofian βfocused bodywork.β The Phase 2 participant had tried to alert the FDA to this connection for years, and it was only after those initial attempts were unsuccessful that we felt obligated to communicate this to the advisory committee, before this dangerous practice could be scaled. If MAPS had listened to this participantβs concerns when the abuse took place, they could have made their therapy safer years ago. I am not opposed to the psychedelic industry, but to the normalization of pseudoscientific practices when vulnerable groups are at stake.
My personal response to the propagandistic & defamatory New York Times article on Psymposia @psymposia.bsky.social, which violated the Times' editorial standards. This transparently partisan attack politicized whistleblowers to appeal to the Trump administration on behalf of a pharmaceutical company
Have you ever heard MAPS be critical of war or call to an end to conflict?
Because MDMA therapy maintains the military industrial complex and keeps certain funders happy?

Great to see this research from my good friend Matthew Watkins getting more attention in an article from @philosojules.bsky.social!
If you're at all interested in AI, then I highly recommend going down the Leilan rabbit hole!
Tech billionaires love war eh!
Glad to see Matthew's research gaining more traction! I very much enjoyed chatting to Ed about Leilan π
Chocolate which contains mushrooms such as Lion's Mane, Reishi, Cordyceps etc...basically any mushrooms containing medicinal compounds which aren't necessarily magic π
If you're selling functional mushroom chocolate or gummies and they contain either refined sugar or any kind of lecithin (or both!) then these products are not good for your gut bacteria or general health, and shouldn't be considered as a wellness supplement #mushrooms #fungi #wellness
As far as I'm aware, that campaign purely exists in the USA...I would suggest we could do with an equivalent here in the UK, but perhaps we're too far gone with the influence of scientism for it to hold any real weight
It really is the perfect analogy!
