Curious about your experience with and tips on BlueSky. What’s working for you? One more thing, I prefer longer form content. That will always be a challenge for me with this type of platform. Is BlueSky more of an online bulletin board or what I am missing?

I want social media to have diverse points of view to grapple with ideas across difference. BlueSky has an echo chamber quality that requires more different users to remedy. Maybe it’s okay for this space to be politically mostly on my side. But I still crave real dialogue with people not like me.

I use various social media platforms and am not confident how BlueSky can replicate all their functions. Instagram (@janefordistrictd) for local politics and the wonder of Raleigh. Facebook for community groups and keeping in touch with friends and family. Reddit w/long-standing moderated groups.

I don’t have my BlueSky community dialed yet whatsoever. It feels cacophonous like Twitter/X and I’m looking for advice for how to tailor it to my interests, for example science & environment, politics, keeping up with real and far-off cool
people, crafts like mosaic tile art, pop culture, bicycles.

I love how BlueSky is decentralized and run by someone (@Jay.bsky.team) who doesn’t appear to be an egomaniac. That’s huge! I’m looking for a space that values real online connection and information sharing. I’m hopeful that’s BlueSky’s mission too.
