People are making fun of the shoe thing, and for good reason, but it's also terrifying:
If Trump's cabinet and advisors are too afraid to tell him he didn't guess their shoe size correctly, they are certainly too afraid to tell him the truth about the war.
Given the endlessly recurring claim that poor people are often spending their SNAP benefits on steak and lobster (not true), itβs ironic that the federal government is spending $23 MILLION onβ¦ steak and lobster.
Another βlet them eat cakeβ moment.
In FY2022 the federal government spent $21 billion on universal free school meals (breakfast and lunch) to K-12 students across our whole beautiful country from sea to shining sea for the whole year.
Thatβs like 3 weeks worth of this stuff ππ»
PEPFAR, the program to stop hundreds of thousands of children and adults from dying of HIV/AIDS, was $6.5 billion a year.
A war of Trumpβs own making. Look at this chart and then look at those pictures of a girlsβ school that weβve destroyed.
!!!
President Trump just said, βWe lifted 2.4 million Americans off of food stamps.β
A reminder of what happened to those 2.4 million Americans:
How will the killing of a cartel leader and shelter-in-place order impact your #SpringBreak2026? New York Times has some travel tips!
The Epstein files document what many women researchers have long experienced but rarely seen laid bare so starkly: exclusion operating behind closed doors, shaping who gets funded, invited, mentored, and taken seriously. How many of these networks, norms, and gatekeepers remain in place?
When you put it like this, a $75 million bribe to Melania and gutting the Washington Post seems like a small price to pay.
Jason!!! He is advanced for his age.
rep. kraft is so whimsical , using his pez collection to show what the ice presence in minnesota looks like
Iβm fairly certain that in my 17 years at NC State that Iβve seen exactly two protests. This is not a campus of radicals or activists. Both protests have been in the last month, targeting ICE and its illegal, thuggish tactics.
This is the type of shit that makes it 100% clear this has nothing to do whatsoever with "law enforcement."
After executing Alex Pretti on Saturday, ICE has shifted to primarily targeting bus stops and elementary schools in my community this week. I cannot overstate how much of the ICE activity in my community is just targeting places where little kids are.
They say βwhereβs the gun?β β After the shots
Because they donβt realize one of them had already taken it β before the shots
Wow! Congratulations!!
Stephen Colbert on the ICE murder of Renee Nicole Good: βThe message from this administration is clear. Only they determine the truth. And when their forces come to your city: obey or die. And if you die, you clearly didnβt obey. This should be an alarm bell for the entire country.β
@sarahkbowen.bsky.social reminds me that the 1980s also saw a frontal assault on the already meager welfare state. So thereβs another commonality.
Today seems a good day to unveil my theory that Trump II has us living in a re-boot of the 1980s: increasing great power competition, βgreed is good,β drug cartels are the biggest threat to national security, and itβs ok to openly invade Latin American countries.
What a time to decide to learn less about the world.

Well we havenβt been there in years bc they closed the one near NC State. Iβve never been to the one in Knightdale. I always got greens andβ¦ I donβt remember? A bunch of sides? I like the concept. Iβm a sucker for a cafeteria tho. I also love going to the NC State dining hall with the kids.
I am sad about this!
If a Psych prof assigns students an essay response paper with explicit guidelines and then flunks a student for turning in a paper that ignores those guidelines but instead makes vague gestures to "the Bible" then THAT IS NOT A VIOLATION OF THE STUDENT'S RELIGIOUS FREEDOM.
Chart showing detention population, among those arrested in the interior, by criminal record, May 2019 through present. There are three lines shown. (1) Prior conviction (which rises from around 9,000 in January 2025 to just over 16,000 in November 2025), (2) Pending criminal charges (which rises from around 5,000 to 15,000), and (3) No criminal record (which rises from around 1,000 to 21,000).
NEW: ICE has finally released post-shutdown detention data. The latest data reveals that a full 40%(!) of people arrested in the interior and held in ICE detention have no criminal record; no criminal charges or prior convictions. That is up from just 4% when Trump took office.
I hope I never forget the revolting feeling of standing at the front of a classroom, warning students that they should carry evidence of immigration status or citizenship, and helping them understand how to respond if federal agents try to kidnap them or their friends off the street.
#ICE
of course they did
Map of the US showing wide spread of SNAP shortages
What are the effects of the shutdown on SNAP users? Propel provides an app to SNAP users to allow them to track their spending and so can offer real-time estimates of needs.
About 70% of SNAP households have a $10 or less balance on their SNAP card accounts.
