I also always have to bring a support person or I am treated even worst since there is no witnesses to their unprofessional and apathetic behaviour </3 so I understand an I am sorry

I have had to the same as well!! And it wasn’t as helpful as I have hoped bc of their unwillingness to accommodate me, it works best to use notes as a guide for myself to not forget what to mention but I wish they would also be willing to read them in cases I am unable to speak :/

Me too!! I have had to use communication devices/objects and de-stigmatising them is very important (: I have never seen them added to a toy, much less such a mainstream one!

Thank you for also sharing your experience! All of our experiences are valid and important and we all deserve to feel seen and even if we need to wait more for our time to shine, we can still celebrate our fellow autistic ppl’s time on the spotlight bc it helps the entire community <3

And to understand the importance of communication devices and other accommodation objects, even if they look flashy and disabled, what’s bad about that? We need to normalise them just like we normalise canes and wheelchairs

I have looked like this Barbie in multiple points in my life when there was no representation like this. I have been non verbal and I have struggled with a really bad speech impediment until very late in my life. But I want those who haven’t felt this to have empathy for such situations regardless

A bad stereotype or mockery of the disability and speaking like it is makes ppl who do look like this Barbie feel horrible and marginalised by their own community-who completely overlooks them even tho they need us to speak for them and fight for their rights and for their acceptance in society

It is unfortunate (and needs fixing) that the voice of the autistic community is often those with lower needs that do not do their due diligence of being educated on lower support needs autism, and these ppl often forget that autism can in fact have a look and be visible and that’s not automatically
