Oh, and if you want to really spin the ghouls' heads ask them whether our businesses having the most negative net financial worth in the OECD is perhaps a bigger problem than having very low levels of Govt debt (and crumbling infra)? [Ends]
Hand holding a sandstone pebble between forefinger and thumb. The pebble is in the shape of a profile with one hole for the eye and another for the open mouth.
This is Mr Shouty, my favourite find from our local beach. He has a lot to say but luckily I never seem to be able to hear him.
Global economy must stop pandering to βfrivolous desires of ultra-richβ, says UN expert www.theguardian.com/environment/...
I took a chance it was you by shouting "Sophie!" and I was right! Wouldn't want to go round hugging the wrong person : ).
"Bluntly, productivity should not be confused with making more and more stuff. It is the how (it is made) that matters. Making more and more stuff, with more and more workers, working for more and more hours, for less and less pay is NOT improved productivity."
This is such a great listen!
Scientists warn our rainfall extremes are decades ahead of models. Prof Rupert Read says our focus should be on nature restoration, flood resilience and community strength as immediate defences against mounting disruption thatβs already happening.

Was it wind, or water saturation, or bank wmashing away or something else?
Those absolute eggs have got it upside down: people at community level are working harder than ever (and largely unpaid) to fill the growing gaps created by the systematic under-resourcing and steady dismantling of our efficient collective social apparatus for ensuring we all can survive and thrive.
Where?
We walked down (and up!) Mopanui Road dodging cars till there was a gap in the stone wall and a padlocked gate with a gap easy to squeeze through for access to the fence perimeter. Then it was just "how long to the corner?!" Quite a bit longer, as it happened, but easy walking.
I walked up and it took me well over an hour as I am not as fit as I used to be. Lots of zigzags so nothing super steep, but plodding most of the way. One seat halfway up. 4.3km, 300 vertical metres. Friend and I then walked 2.5km to Orokonui along the fence and got picked up there. Cafe oasis!
I looked for you Jessica, but even Rachel could not find you then! A great day despite the weather.
See you up there!
We choose to go to the moon, not because it's easy. But because it's easier than Mars.
You might have someone to vote for in the by election now bsky.app/profile/ahaw...
Oh bravo!
I picked some of ours this afternoon. Delicious!
Flawed economic models mean climate crisis could crash global economy, experts warn www.theguardian.com/environment/...
Went to Helen Leach's memorial. Ian Barber used the phrase "Citizen gardeners" - gardening mindful of society, the climate, landforms, & resources in relation to the act of gardening. I just thought I would pass that on to folk here like @br3nda.bsky.social and others who it might resonate with.
Yes! Electric or analog, ir doesnt matter.
Cartoon. Big bold black type reads, βWeather! Floods! Disaster!β At the bottom a woman is saying βAnd climate change?β PM Luxon is saying βShhhβ¦β and Climate Minister Simon Watts is saying, βNowβ¦β and our Foreign Minister is saying, βPffft, youβve been listening to that lunatic fringe group, the World Health Organisationβ
Fact: Climate change is making the weather more extreme.

Political scientists see non-violent resistance as much more effective--and it's not just from aggregate statistics. Rather, it's the way that peaceful resistance undermines the state's repressive capacities.
This op-ed by Berkeley prof @owasow.bsky.social explains this logic π―.
Give it a read!
The Naomi Novik Scholomance series is great, and a good investigation into privilege and power.
Dear May! She had the most beautiful ears, and a personality to match. Mischief liives up to her name but once Mayhem became a mum she settled right down.
Grow the good things!
From TV long ago - Blue Remembered Hills. From Housman, Into my heart an air that kills
From that far country blows
What are those blue remembered hills
What spires what farms are those
That is the land of lost content
I see it shining plain
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again
This is a useful explanation of of how money really works and why the government/household debt metaphor is so bad. It also links to a transcript which I much prefer to video.
Questionnaire Design and Survey Research This workshop will provide some basic principles in questionnaire/survey design and give workshop participants an opportunity for hands-on experience designing a questionnaire. Following participating in this workshop, learners will be able to: - Design a blueprint for a survey/questionnaire appropriate to their own application; - Construct and edit questions to avoid common problems in wording and framing; - Select an appropriate response format from a menu of alternatives; - Design the overall format of the survey/questionnaire to facilitate data management and analysis.
Hey #SurveyMethods and #MedEd folks:
In a workshop for #MedSchool faculty about questionnaire design and survey research methods, what
- objectives should be prioritized?
- materials are out there?
- activities are worth it?
- assessments work?
