What recourse do I have? I would be DONE if I'd filed the cancer deferment to begin with, but being sick + COVID+ survival kind of kicked that can donw the road. Kind Connie at MOHELA is leveling this up but I am not kidding that I spent half my day on phone today.
Now I'm 8 mo away from PSLF forgiveness. I'm getting punted back & forth between Mohela & StudentAid.gov. The gov't says Mohela needs to retroactively take my request for cancer deferment, so they can count my months of service. Mohela says they can't retro accept bc C-19 forbearance trumps cancer
Finance/legal/ed nerd friends: I did not take a cancer deferment of student loans during tx of my lymphoma 5 years ago because cancer coincided with COVID-19 forbearance. However, unknown to me, if I worked less than 30 hours/week, it wouldn't count towards my PSLF. I worked 20. Because cancer.
