A Black and Muslim lawyer says that Durham police ripped off her hijab and slammed her head into a desk. She was finishing up legal work in an interview room when it happened “without provocation.”
Having seen several abductions up close, it is really hard to convey how much the thing they’re doing is roaming in military convoys until they see someone who is alone and isn’t white, and then jumping out in large numbers, pulling them into a van, and screeching off, all in 90 seconds or so.
Here is the independent panel's timeline of how risk was identified with the Bearspaw Feeder Main 20 years before it ruptured in June 2024.
Thank you!
There's another map that seems to show the advisory extends to the other side of Crowchild.
Hey Myke, the maps provided by the city are low resolution and inconsistent. Do you have access to the exact boundaries of the boil water advisory?
🚨 Due to a water main break last night on 16 Ave, Ward 7 residents in the communities of Parkdale, Point McKay and West Hillhurst are currently under a boil water advisory and all Calgarians are being asked to conserve water. Updates available at calgary.ca.
These maps are low resolution, and inconsistent. Can you give us the exact boundaries of the boil water advisory?
Budget drops and cork pops
It's really too on-the-nose that he's named that.
In this ep we make the point that you can never have a budget as harsh as 1995 again unless you rebuild the welfare state first, which we haven't done.
But I think I'm going to be mumbling the phrase "Minister Champagne is repealing the yacht tax" to myself for a while. 🍾
Truly a fate worse than death.
packing luxury tax breaks into your austerity budget is crazy. they're dabbing on us. they tricked you with a bunch of elbows up shit and now they're dabbing on us

Traffic 9-year-old girl on skateboard hit and killed by truck in Spruce Grove By Karen Bartko Global News Posted August 5, 2025 3:58 pm 1 min read A girl playing on a skateboard rolled off her driveway and was struck by a Dodge Ram pickup on a cul-de-sac in Spruce Grove on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2025. Global News
Horrible news.
Yesterday, a pickup truck driver hit & killed a one-year-old girl in Calgary.
Today, a pickup truck driver hit & killed a nine-year-old girl in Spruce Grove, near Edmonton.
Both happened just outside homes: One in the back alley, on off the front driveway.
Frankly it is frustrating.
In the 10 years has seen a 1.5km extension west (12 Ave) and two 1.5km partial extensions south (11th St and 2nd St). A funded 15th Ave improvement has been delayed another year.
Every community should be able to get the benefits the extension did for Sunalta.

Beginning in Feb 2024, I became the target of an online harassment campaign that affected my personal and professional spaces. The individual behind it uses an anonymous X account to post defamatory, hateful, and inaccurate statements about me in response to posts made by me or posts about me.
Oh, I hadn’t even made that connection, yikes!
I, for one, didn't really care about the "smug" part. It's the suggestion of a generalized tendency towards ableism when advocates very much focus on inclusive infrastructure. Trying to pit good causes against each other because of some unspecified bad interaction is poisonous stuff.
There’s legitimate criticisms to be had of some cycling advocacy. Some cyclists are even ableist! But there’s also a lot of lazy leveraging of that term by people who don’t give a shit about cyclists or disabled folks so generalized pitting of these issues against each other is unhelpful.
That’s the wrecker shit. Attempting to leverage one progressive cause again another because someone unspecified said something annoying.
I and others had issue with the lazy use of the term “ableist” applied as a generalized tendency for cyclists, when cycling advocacy often takes the form of fighting for *more* accessible infrastructure.
