Joined thousands of dissenters at Not My President Day in Denver. Speak up while we can. Only obstacles were cold and snow. Encouraging to see other appalled people who are taking action.

Abraham Lincoln, seated and holding glasses and a pencil. Available at the Library of Congress. Photograph taken by Alexander Gardner on Feb 5, 1865. Finding that alt text has a vastly longer limit than the post text, here's the full quotation: "... the same old serpent that says you work and I eat, you toil and I will enjoy the fruits of it. Turn in whatever way you will—whether it come from the mouth of a King, an excuse for enslaving the people of his country, or from the mouth of men of one race as a reason for enslaving the men of another race, it is all the same old serpent.”

On Lincoln's birthday in the Year of the Snake: “The same old serpent that says you work and I eat, you toil and I will enjoy the fruits of it. Turn in whatever way you will...it is all the same old serpent.”

Handmade paper valentines destined for snail mail boxes

First batch of Valentines on its way. Let me know if you are in need of a little love. Unsure how to contact your Representative? Use www.house.gov/representati..., then find their website & contact info. Share appreciation for how they are standing up to Elon Musk — or encourage them to do so.

Breath of fresh air. These younger kids were more earnest than my eighth graders are willing to be —they taught each other to knit and crochet. My class mascot even ended up with a jaunty hat.

Huzzah! I found my stash of knitting needles. No, nobody "borrowed" them. I stuck them in the closet with the leftover yarn and unfinished projects. All set now for Friday's new middle school Knitting Elective: We'll do something useful. Together.

Almost sunrise, looking east from the Golden Gate

Riding public transit to school this morning, with downtown SF poking its head thru the fog to see the 7:20 sunrise.

"If everybody always lies to you, the consequence is not that you believe the lies, but rather that nobody believes anything any longer." Keep looking for the truth while it’s still out there.
