I'm now ready to share a rough DRAFT of the teaching resources list for cognitive psychology I've been compiling. As you'll see, I could use further help from you, esp. where there are no entries yet. Pls take a look & share your favorite resources.π I'll keep updating the list this summer. Thanks!
π¨ New study reveals that when used to summarize scientific research, generative AI is nearly five times less accurate than humans.
Many haven't realized, but Gen AI's accuracy problem is worse than initially thought.
Was already feeling the love for UVA students while reviewing final projects and course feedback- we have pretty great students.
I'm pretty sure the measuring curiosity session is on May 3 - Saturday... I'm filling in to give a talk so hope that's correct :) Thanks for posting this, I'm still struggling to find some of these on the app to add them to my schedule!

CASTL at UVA has a few examples, the most widely used is probably the literacy screeners that are used with over 260,000 kids each year! literacy.virginia.edu/background. But this was more Ed research than traditional cog dev lab work I think. It started before my time here.
In this op-ed, we - the presidents of SREE and AEFP - joined forces to argue for the importance of evidence on "what works" and how cutting such funding is not "efficient" - it is wasteful. www.brookings.edu/articles/cut...

Iβve never gotten into the reward yourself thing until today- excited to finish my grading so I can pick one of these to build and put in my office as a reward!
That said, Iβve seen post bacc lab manager positions help students figure out that they donβt want to go to graduate school when they were on the fence, or help prepare students to be competitive to get into grad school (who may otherwise not make it). So it seems like useful opportunity!
Got it- sometimes with the research staff needed itβs hard to fit a grad student, and it doesnβt seem ok to bring on a grad student for a role thatβs mostly coordination and logistical planning etc. I see thatβs not the kind of position you meant!
We have a .5 FTE project manager who handles a lot of our communication with teachers and divisions and data management, then we have a data collection coordinator at each site, and my postdoc does a lot to help with managing data collection. Easily at 1.5-2FTE and still rely on RAs a lot for more.
I think I have similar needs in my work- there's no way I could coordinate our data collection of multiple sessions at multiple time points in three school divisions across the state... we have several data collectors at each site and many classrooms. I need someone (not me) to coordinate this!

I think lab managers and similar pre-PhD (e.g., graduated postbac students going to present work from undergrad) are still in a student/trainee type of position and I would consider that fine to register as a student. Interested to hear others' opinions!
