Coral Reef Microbiome This book focuses on Structure, Function and Ecology of the coral microbiome and associated active interventions to conserve and restore coral reefs.

OUT NOW 'coral reef microbiome' by Springer Nature link.springer.com/book/10.1007... .. some 2.5 years in the making, jam packed: check out Ch.16 on Assisted Restoration as the sum of approaches required to deliver effective ecological restoration! Many thanks to all contributors @uni-konstanz.de

Cryptic coral diversity is associated with symbioses, physiology, and response to thermal challenge Cryptic coral hosts differ in phenotypes relevant to climate change.

Happy to share our new paper "Cryptic coral diversity is associated with symbioses, physiology, and response to thermal challenge". Check it out and share with your friends!

How is coral physiology & symbioses affected by domestication & water quality during coral restoration? 🌏 πŸ§ͺ

A recent study explored these intricacies & found:

πŸͺΈHost species-specific responses
🧬Shifts in symbiont associations
πŸ§ͺAltered growth & diet

Terrible news today:

This year, one-third of coral cover has been destroyed in two northern sections of the Great Barrier reef due to anthropogenic heating.

Results for the southern sections (which were even hotter) have not been officially released.

Coupled carbon and nitrogen cycling regulates the cnidarian–algal symbiosis - Nature Communication... Photosymbioses enable efficient nutrient recycling between heterotrophic and phototrophic organisms. This study shows that nutrient cycling in a cnidarian-algal symbiosis is regulated through resource...

Our paper on resource competition in the cnidarian-algal symbiosis is finally out. shorturl.at/gklxP we show that host and symbiont use photosynthates to fix ammonium. The resulting resource competition shapes the phenotype and defines ecological niche of the symbiosis. @reefgenomics.bsky.social πŸͺΈπŸ¦ πŸ”¬
