I personally use affinity. It's an"old school"software, with a one time payment. Quite complete for what I need.
Otherwise, the Gimp is a very good freeware. A small learning curve, but worth the effort.

Never had to do it with a dog, but well with my two donkeys. THEY had lots of fun. And I had my fun when they got sent back towards me... by a furious chicken 😊

Oh and also the fact that I effing admire people able to produce quality images in square format, of course.

Incredibly beautiful. I usually am not fond of tree images, but the mood, the dreamlike quality of the trees in the background, and the perfect framing and exposure of the autumn leaves make for a perfect image.
