Just heard your Ramblings on catchup. What a lovely listen! Warm, fascinating and both joined to that incredible landscape. My folks retired to Mβboro and I wd drive mum to Clench common often and stare at the beyond - and walk towards Martinsell. They are scattered there at clench.

A brilliant speech by Canada's Mark Carney in Davos: "The old order is not coming back. We should not mourn it. Nostalgia is not a strategy...The powerful have their power. But we have something too β the capacity to stop pretending, to name reality, to build our strength at home & to act together."

Roman mosaic showing four youthful Genii of the seasons dancing around a draped central object, each in different clothing and seasonal attributes, with the winter figure at upper right wrapped in a heavy hooded cloak.
Astronomical #winter starts today. It's the shortest day of the year in terms of daylight with the sun starting to set later each day until Summer Solstice.
The mosaic depicts the dancing Genii (protective spirits) of the four seasons. The Genius of winter is wrapped in a heavy cloak.π§΅1/2

These are bad times for the BBC: Trump is suing, its leaders have resigned, GB News snaps at its heels. In our winter issue, @aiannucci.bsky.social, @lewisgoodall.com, @sophiasgaler.bsky.social and others suggest how it could change.

@tommckinney.bsky.social my favourite βChristmasβ song is Tchaikovsky s Crown of Roses. Sad, haunting, certainly not jolly, seeing the bleak future for Jesus.
We were talking about this the other day and I came up with Shakespeares Elizabeth 1. We fed it in and it came out quite trite, in rhyming couplets, but with a convincing cast of characters. Including the ghost of H8! Quite fun, but essentially meaningless.
@petroc.bsky.social oddly as you played Les Tricoteuses yesterday I was driving over Hampstead Heath on the way back from Yarn Club at work.
