Catkins & buds on a hazel.
The male catkins release pollen & appear in early spring before the leaves. They look like little hanging tassels. The tiny buds with pink tips are the female flowers. Both male & female flowers grow on the same tree, just in different forms.

White-billed divers are always seen along the Moray Coast in the Spring. I have seen them in April the past few years, but never as early as February before. So great to see this one from Roseisle, Burghead this morning.

Managed to get to Loch Loy to see the blue-winged teal which has been seen off and on since mid January. It’s a stunning looking bird, a rare visitor from North America.
