Many of those released after questioning have been left on the streets of Texas without money and identification, which were confiscated by authorities. Family and friends have tried to help them make their way back home.
Wondering if anyone knows of any on-site organizing near detention centers to connect non-English-speaking people who've been detained, moved across state lines, and then released in the middle of nowhere--in, for example, rural Texas or Louisiana--with translators, resources, ways to get back home?
There's a prison revolt at a concentration camp in Texas in solidarity with Minneapolis:
Call the Hudson River Park Trust & tell them to terminate their contract with ICE to house vans in their parking garage. I had to call a few times but finally got through. Person who picked up was supportive and is tracking # of calls!

For those outside the Twin Cities, the person posting this GoFundMe is a member of Minneapolis city council (and among the many locals doing absolutely heroic resistance to ICE), so it's legit.
They're emboldened by their movement confreres in ICE and CBP. In NYC the community education council members pushing anti-trans school policies are Moms for Liberty activists whose other pet projects are segregation in schools, anti-"CRT," and book bans. ICE raid footage is inspo for them.
Magnificent
I've been teaching @jpbrammer.bsky.social's excellent essay "Angry Person" in my composition class for a couple years now. Really tempted to switch to this one in the spring.
Want to help people in Minneapolis right now? Here are a lot of ways to help!
A family member let me know about this church that is packing food boxes for families in the Twin Cities that canβt go to work because of the ICE invasion. Please join me in donating: www.dhhmn.com
Absolutely. The context, in part, is increasing class sizes as the uni was defunded by the previous mayoral admin. Overburdened instructors, scrapped job protections. Just highlights genAI's role as a tool for dematerializing and controlling labor under the pretext of meeting very real needs
One of dozens of mentions in Schulman's ACT UP history of the NYT's active role in minimizing the AIDS epidemic and dehumanizing gays and activists. From there to Judith Miller to "Screams Without Words" to literally supplying language for anti-trans legislation, this is who they've always been
These aren't mutually exclusive categories. Many trans women are lesbians. Many trans men are gay men (ππ»). And yes, trans women are targeted with particular venom and intensity. But the idea that transmasc people aren't under threat is a fiction. "Irreversible Damage" etc.
This is really, really great.

My first viewing of 2026 was Hud (1963), a gorgeous neo-Western whose rotten-to-the-core title character (Paul Newman, mesmerizing), at one point says, "This whole country's run on epidemics"
I'll be watching the livestream in my longjohns β
Really touched by this. What a wonderful choice

Here is my most favourite photo of 2025. Iβve come to describe my images as capturing the moments between the moments. This image a pause in play, a small paw reaching up, tiny claws extended is absolute trust.
I find these moments tell the story best.

"There are as many ways to state these basic questions as there are starting points for coping with them. At bottom they are about nothing less than man's place in the universe. But I am professionally trained only in computer science, which is to say (in all seriousness) that I am extremely poorly educated; I can mount neither the competence, nor the courage, nor even the chutzpah, to write on the grand scale actually demanded. I therefore grapple with questions that couple more directly to the concerns I have expressed, and hope that their larger implications will emerge spontaneously."

I now get why "It's not worth it bruv" is the transatlantic standard for fight deescalation. It actually works! Just intervened in a fight in my neighborhood park. 20 minutes of talking to both guys as they kept goading each other. Only thing that consistently cooled the temp was "It's not worth it"

Trans people need to be careful about talking about DIY. Yes talk about it in the general sense, quote the facts and figures but be careful. Don't give away sources to cis folks. Don't talk to journalists about the details. They're coming for it.
