Ethan Winters is C. Yes he saved Rose, but at the beginning of the game he puts his baby to sleep and leaves the room with no monitor in sight. Maybe Rose wouldn’t have been kidnapped by fungal cultists if you spent $40 in a decent video monitor, Ethan.

Sam Porter Bridges is peak S-tier. He seahorses his adoptive daughter all the way across Ghost America while carrying 180 pounds of emergency relief supplies on his back, then retires to the most immaculately baby-proofed bunker you’ve ever seen. Incredible.
Controversial take here, but Kiryu gets a low B. He’s a great caretaker when he’s present, but he keeps doing the “I need to leave Haruka to keep her safe” even when she’s literally begging him not to. Kratos without the reflection and growth. Also he yeeted Haruto that one time.
John Marston is the quintessential F. Leaves his son behind to try and spare him from a life of violence only to inspire his son to repeat his mistakes and enter into the same cycle of violence. Classic bad dad move, amateur mistake.
Kratos gets an A. 2018 Kratos is obviously struggling badly with fatherhood, but by Ragnarok he’s clearly learned lessons and open to continuing feedback. He’s not perfect, but he’s learning and growing and that counts for a lot.
Working on a video game dad tier list. To qualify, the character doesn’t have to be a biological father, but they must be actively taking care of the child in a way that drives the plot of the game. Suggestions welcome, rankings in this thread.
