Hong Kong Legends was one of the best early dvd labels and this better than its source Under Siege knockoff is still only available in the UK on this disc (hurry up and change that, 88Films)

To be fair, I wasn't just talking to that account. It's the wider policy we should take to reporting on AI 'art' as a whole (unless it's someone we used to think was a real artist, name and shame those fuckers)

Joyride was one of the best discoveries I made in 2025, so thanks for having a hand in that.

I should also acknowledge my position here that even when I disagreed with the consensus, I only ever got relatively mild pushback. I'm sure that would have been different were I not a white straight dude.

This is actually something I don't miss now that I no longer go to the cinema. I seldom have hot takes anymore, so most of the time, by the time I have a reaction to a 'new' movie, the fuss has generally died down.

Starve this shit by refusing to publish the press releases. Could it go viral on its own? Sure, maybe, but not feeding the ragebait machine makes that tougher, and if it does you also refuse to report on THAT. Fuck AI 'art'.

Have you seen Save the Green Planet (the film it's remaking)? Same story, but tonally it throws you from pillar to post and is overall a lot odder. I wanted WAY more strangeness from Bugonia.

A β˜…β˜… review of Bugonia (2025) As a big fan of Save the Green Planet, and having spent the last two decades trying to get people to see it, I figured if anyone HAD to remake such a singular film, you could do worse than Yorgos Lant...

Never thought I'd see Lanthimos out weirded by his source material. Just get the new 4K of Save the Green Planet instead.

Absolutely in for this, looks like another great performance from Elle Fanning.

An extremely underrated Hitchcock, to my mind.

Couldn't be arsed with finishing Man Finds Tape. I had the same struggle staying awake watching it as the people in the movie did watching the in universe videos. OOOH. Spooky.

A sad addendum to this, I discovered that lead Inka Victoria Groetschel, who makes an impressive debut in Linie 1, died in 2009, aged just 41. I'd really like to see more of her work based on this.

A β˜…β˜…β˜…Β½ review of Linie 1 (1988) At the very least, I've never seen anything quite like this. Set entirely in the West Berlin metro and on its trains, mostly around the famous Zoo Station, it follows Sunnie (Inka Victoria Groetschel)...

First line of its Wikipedia: "Linie 1 is the second-most successful German musical after Bertolt Brecht’s Threepenny Opera."

I'll post my Letterboxd review in a minutes.

Close ups are TERRIBLE. Clothes and background textures are better, but faces look waxy a lot of the time. It's a real shame.

Just started Linie 1. Film seems fun so far but I HATE the restoration/transfer. Remember that version of Predator with so much DNR that Arnie looked (more) like a wax statue? This has the same issue. ALL grain seems to be scrubbed out.

Lined up a first watch of this West German New wave musical for later today. Aside from that description, it was the cover that grabbed me

International Women's Day, you say? What kind of Band Maid fan would I be if I didn't post this?

I hope this new 4K restoration and disc of Dogtooth means that we'll also be getting Alps soon enough. I honestly think that film may be Lanthimos' masterpiece.

A β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜… review of Dogtooth (2009) Probably a decade on from my last viewing, Dogtooth remains as hypnotically strange, fucked up, disturbing and frankly terrifying as it ever was. The robotic nature of the performances might make them...

The new 4K disc is very good as well, for the record.

Adding to this: As someone with clinical depression and on the autistic spectrum, fuck yes movies are therapy

As a white, straight, cis, relatively middle class, English speaking man, I grew up surrounded by culture that saw me as the default main character. Other communities should have that too.

Lukas Moodysson's Fucking Amal (aka Show Me Love). I'd have loved Before series like check ins with Agnes and Elin over the years

Name a Wes Anderson film.
I get why people like his stuff, but the dolls house preciousness just brings me out in a rash.

Serious would be fine if it were consistent. It turns into a po faced cartoon and it just doesn't work.

Double billed them a couple of days ago and just stunned by the drop-off in quality. Cannot fathom why anyone thought that shift of genre and tone would work. Hawke's worst performance?

Shot on location, less than a decade after the bombing, an incredibly raw documentary style telling of the aftermath of Hiroshima.
