This fellowship will support my work using organoid models and spatial transcriptomics to understand how immune and epithelial cells communicate during this process.
Switching from evo-devo to the regeneration field has been exciting.

The project set out to understand what makes human guts uniquely human by comparing them to our closest relatives. We created the first chimpanzee intestinal organoid models and used single-cell genomics to map the evolutionary changes that shaped human gut biology.

A summary schematic showing morphogen gradients in the developing human embryo, an overview of two screenings performed in the study (one testing factors related to patterning conditions, another one testing factors related to patterning reproducibility) and icons representing the main readouts of the screenings: organoid cell type composition, measures of morphogen interactions, primary atlas comparison and regulon activity.
Your new batch of cortical organoids resulted in mixed regional identities closer to hindbrain. Why is patterning so hard?π©

Menstruation is understudied due to societal taboos + a biological challenge: mice (a key system for research + drug discovery) donβt menstruate.
@cagricevrim.bsky.social made menstruating mice + used them to discover early events in menstruation.

Induction of menstruation in mice reveals the regulation of menstrual shedding
During menstruation, an inner layer of the endometrium is selectively shed, while an outer, progenitor-containing layer is preserved to support repeated regeneration. Progress in understanding this co...
