Today, we honor and remember former Governor Richard J. Codey, a compassionate leader who never stopped fighting for the people of New Jersey. His legacy isn’t just in the policies he shaped, but in the lives he touched and the progress he helped move forward.
For months, his pain was dismissed while he struggled with a mystery disease.
STARTING SOON: At 2:30 PM EST, the Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity will conduct a legislative hearing on 12 bills.

We need your help! So far, we’ve raised $16,000 from 164 donors, which tells us that a lot of people understand the importance of this work. We train incarcerated writers and publish their stories. Our goal is to raise $50,000 by Dec. 31. Can you support our work?
Prof. Nancy Wolff and Catherine F. Lewis, MD wrote a chapter on #PSD and trauma-informed care in the Oxford textbook of #correctional #psychiatry. This chapter provides a blueprint that recognizes the reluctance of the correctional system to address #trauma. bloustein.rutgers.edu/wolffpsdchap...

NEW: The Trump Admin has admitted they must comply with yesterday’s court order and issue full SNAP benefits for November.
Recipients should confirm balances and monitor NJSNAP.gov. We’ll continue fighting to protect NJ residents and make sure they don’t go hungry.

Last week, the Federal Communications Commission voted to increase phone and video calling rate caps for incarcerated people.
In July we published dispatches about the necessity of phone calls, and how high costs — relative to extremely low prison wages — affect their connections to loved ones.

"I keep gazing out of my window like the daydreamer I am, just to detach from my trapped reality of this cell. To hope. To imagine.
I pretend I crawl out of the window into the loving arms of a community filled with opportunity and purpose."
There’s an open secret in my family. Everybody whispers about it, but no one talks about it.
It’s about my family’s history of intergenerational incarceration.
20 years ago today, we lost #RosaParks — a woman whose quiet #CourageSparkedMovement. Her legacy reminds us change begins when one person dares to stand (or sit) for #Justice.
#NJRC honors her by fighting every day for #SecondChances, dignity, & equality for all. 🕊️
