For some serious praying! I remember being amazed at the size (and expense) of some of the rosary beads on sale in the Vatican.
This image shows the eastern face of the cross, with the figure of the crucified Christ dressed in a long robe. The cross shaft is decorated with rope moulding and intricate false relief interlace.
The West Cross • Kilfenora • Clare
When it was founded in c.1152, Kilfenora Cathedral was the centre of the smallest diocese in medieval Ireland.
Though small, Kilfenora is rich in historic features, and the site had as many as six high crosses.
This is the impressive c.4.5m tall West Cross.
My first year History & Geography students made a great job of these St Brigid’s crosses in our Folklore class today. @atumayo.bsky.social @atu-hrg.bsky.social @oflynnatu.bsky.social @perryshare.bsky.social

497 years ago today, Henry VIII attended a meal with Cardinal Wolsey and the Papal Legate Campeggio, for which this is the menu (one of the few menus for meals attended by Henry) that survive.

The bare branches of a tree against a cold blue winter sky, above a jumbled historic graveyard where a multitude of headstones represent generations of a community
St. Patricks Graveyard • Kilmovee • Mayo
In the east of County Mayo, near the Roscommon border, you can find the remains of a small medieval church set within a historic graveyard that has been in use for centuries.
An atmospheric place where you can feel a deep well of time.
