Botanical study, Mammoth Lakes, CA. Plants grow very differently at higher elevation (8000 to 11,000 foot). The white prickly poppy is covered with tiny thorns and only grows 2 feet tall. It’s cousin the Matilija poppy has no thorns and grows to heights of 12 feet elsewhere.
