Made-up numbers with no credence.

Reform claim: 6k deportations/week: over 300k per year.

Trump (2025): about 230k, away from the border.

Per capita, Reform are saying they would QUADRUPLE the pace of Trump's cruel + chaotic ICE deportations in UK

Fears for free speech as crackdown on Slapps is shelved The editors of The Times and The Sunday Times have urged No 10 to end the use of strategic litigation against public participation

Happy SLAPPing?

It looks like the government’s crackdown on using vexatious litigation to silence people is cracking up before it’s even begun:

A slightly blurred picture of a Roman person in a tunic, facing left. Above and below are two parallel decorative borders. The person is definitely not skiing. Instead a poorly executed attempt by the mosaicist to give the person a shadow means it looks like he's skiing.

It's the Winter Olympics, so here's a mosaic of a Roman who is *definitely* skiing. β›·οΈπŸ‘

Hilary Cass here arguing for children to be prevented from being known by a preferred name or getting a haircut in case it encourages them to continue later in life to transition.

Hilary Cass acts like gender variant children should have the transness hazed out of them.

The local MP for East Thanet has reacted with fury to a tweet by Reform UK’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development threatening to pull funding from Margate’s Turner Contemporary Gallery in an act of β€˜naked retribution’ for holding his council to account.

This week, Polly Billington MP revealed Freedom of Information (FOI) disclosures showing that Reform UK’s claim they had saved Kent taxpayers Β£39.5 million by cancelling net zero projects was not supported by council documentation.

But instead of admitting the false figures and committing to stop using them, Cllr David Wimble – who is responsible for funding for the gallery – tweeted, β€œperhaps we could pull funding for her lovely turner contemporary?... Polly suck it up.”

The Turner has contributed more than Β£100 million to the economy of Thanet, and has welcomed more than 4.8 million visitors since it was opened.

A Century After Vanishing, a Gentle Giant Returns Wild European bison are roaming the Carpathian Mountains for the first time in 100 years β€” and bringing the land back to life.

The last wild European bison was shot in 1927. At the time there were fewer than 60 such bison alive in zoos & private parks. Now, the great, shaggy beasts are once again roaming the Carpathian Mountains.

And they're helping bring wild lands back to life.

Good news story! No pay wall.

I was not "miffed because I fell out of the age range". On the contrary, when the Back to 60 lawsuit extended the age range to include women of my age, I was furious.

I opposed WASPI from the start because I did not think their campaign was morally justifiable. That is still my position.

The power of pluck – The Mint Magazine The Mint Magazine

The β€œplucky little village” myth distorts how we view conflicts and power dynamics. This piece argues that perceived underdogs like Ukraine or Israel in 1948 rarely triumph alone; their β€œsuperpower” is often the backing of empires.

Obviously this may never happen (still waiting for the Iran-related tariffs from last week) but targeting individual EU members, rather than the whole EU, would be a new departure. Indeed, as @samuelmarclowe.bsky.social keeps saying, the surprise is he hasn’t done it earlier.
