Double knock-out for malaria The malaria parasite is still killing almost half a million people every year. An SNSF project has now identified a gene that holds out the prospect of a safe, effective live vaccine.

🚨 Breakthrough in #malaria research! The Heussler lab's new study shows that genetically attenuated parasites (GAPs) with two key genes deleted can completely halt liver stage development—stopping malaria before symptoms begin. A huge step toward new vaccines!
