That seems right to me. Some people nearing the end of their careers don't want to bind the hands of those coming next which I get. But some are very vocal about how things used to be better!

The interesting thing is when people decide to engage with that anger in university governing bodies v. when they just disengage, do their teaching and don't otherwise participate.

I think another impact will be a further erosion of trust in government if there is no accountability for any of this and Congress does not take back some power.
